Bob Akwaboah exemplifies the guitar band sound that was so prevalent in Ghana during the 1960s and 70s.  The genre stripped away all of the big band musical decor that defined the era immediately following WWII in favor for a rawer sound. In particular, Akwaboah’s music was laidback with a air of moodiness and tranquility, yet encompassed a subtle rhythmic panic at its core.  And when I think of Ghana, with its dimly lit chop bars and eerily quiet backroads, its this music that plays in the background.
