Dr. K. Gyasi produced some of the most quintessential highlife recordings during the 1970’s. Most notably, was his record-breaking album, Sikyi Highlife, which featured a double-sided continuous melody that stretched for almost forty minutes. Sikyi Highlife was not only a beautifully constructed melancholy piece of Ghanaian music, but it also catapulted Dr. K. Gyasi to superstar status, which prompted an international tour for the group.
It was overseas that Gyasi recorded his Creation LP, a monstrous piece of work that featured, among others, the song “His Noble Kings,” which you can find on the Ghana Special compilation. But there is so much more of Gyasi’s that never sees that light of day. Countless times Lion and I ran across his numerous 45 singles, one of which is presented here today.
Note: I’ll be posting his full length albums in the near future so stay tuned.
